How Phone Visits Work
Treating a patient during a Phone Visit is easy. Here’s how it works:
When a patient calls Doctors on Demand, we determine which state the patient is calling from. We then route the patient’s call to a physician in the caller’s state.
When the physician answers the call, he hears a message notifying him that a patient is waiting to speak to him. The doctor then has the choice of accepting or declining the call.
If the call is accepted, the physician will hear a brief description of what’s wrong with the patient, along with his/her medical history.
The doctor is then connected to the patient, and the patient and doctor discuss concerns, symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments during the phone call.
When the Phone Visit has ended, the doctor remains connected to the Doctors on Demand system and is given a chance to verbally dictate notes about the visit using the telephone.
If the patient needs prescription medication, the physician then calls the prescription into the patient’s local pharmacy (supplied by the patient during the phone call).
